An International Seminar on ‘Creating and Teaching Music Patterns’ will be held during 16-18 December 2013. We have chosen Swabhumi-The Heritage Plaza, Sal Lake, Kolkata as the seminar venue. Scholars from seven countries spread over four continents have shown interest including the scholars from the institutions like Harvard University, MIT, London University, UCLA, Leipzig University, University of Pretoria, UNISA and others. This seminar will see scholars from different disciplines like Information Technology, Physics, Statistics, Sociology, Anthropology and other allied disciplines related to music.

US University residency
Professor Sanjoy Bandopadhyay will be having residency at the Center for World Performance Studies [CWPS], University of Michigan at Ann Arbor [USA] during 09 to 15 February 2014. He will also visit the University of Washington [USA] during 15 to 19 February 2014.

Western Classical Music Programs to start shortly
The department is glad to witness 125 GB of music audio data getting successfully digitized exclusively with a student's initiative. Christian Noçon, a student of BA [Hons] has been working on this project since mid-2010.
The department has started Text Digitizing from 12 August 2012. The students are primarily running the project. They could successully digitized a few thousand pages in a couple of days. Here is one sample, 311 pages... Sangeet Sudarshan by Sudarshanacharya Shastri [Kashi, 1915]. This was done from a photocopy version.
Professor Sanjoy Bandopadhyay, Director, SMTC-DRLOMI has been inducted as a Consultant by the Ethnologishches Museum, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin for a 3D digitization project of musical instruments [that will include musical instruments of Rajah S.M. Tagore] funded by DFG [German Research Foundation].
